Our Visit
On a Saturday in October, after one of Megan’s soccer games, we took a drive up the I-5 Freeway to Los Feliz to meet up with some old friends. Jason and I have fond memories of this area because it’s where we first lived as a young married couple. When we lived here, House of Pies was a place we went to regulary for dinner and/or dessert, so we thought this would be a good place to take our friends for an early dinner.
Here are some reasons why we liked it:
- You can order breakfast all day long (Megan was happy).
- There is a kid menu option.
- Servers were prompt and friendly.
- There’s an indoor and outdoor seating option.
- The meal prices are more affordable than other restaurants nearby.
- Free parking is available in their parking lot or on side streets nearby.
Details We Discovered
- I noticed that the single bathrooms have been updated and modernized.
- There is a television for watching sports, but since the volume was off, it was easy for conversation.
- We felt that the inside temperature was pleasant, while outside was 80 degrees.
- It was fun to receive complimentary chocolate chip cookies at the end of the meal to share.
- There are a variety of different flavored pies and desserts to enjoy.
Additional Information
- House of Pies is located down the hill from the Griffith Observatory. It’s also located near a well-known bookstore called Skylight Books, for browsing before or after eating.
Final Thoughts
House of Pies is a casual restaurant that is great for meeting with other families. The variety of choices offered on their menu is bound to meet everyone’s cravings. My kids and Jason gave it a 4-out-of-5-star rating. They all enjoyed their meals and felt satisfied with the amount. I, on the other hand, am giving it a 3-out-of-5 for my meal experience. I ordered the Impossible Burger meal. When my meal came out, I didn’t find the burger and fries as appealing as the other dinner plates. Outside of that, the server was great and the environment overall was pleasant.
The next time we go to the Los Feliz area, Jason and I would like to go visit some of our other old favorites like Fred 62 or Home Restaurant.
